We are lucky enough to have a full bathroom in the basement of our house, which is super useful especially since we don’t have a bathroom on our first floor. But when we moved in, the bathroom looked like nobody had touched it since 1980. It needed a full renovation. And being the DIY-ers that…
In our house we are lucky enough to have a bathroom in the basement. Not exactly common in many houses, but since we have a laundry room down there and all of our tools and DIY supplies, it’s pretty handy. We’ve been renovating this bathroom for three years. Yes, I said it. Not all room makeovers happen…
One of the major problems we, and I’m sure a lot of you, encounter in home renovation is where to find materials for projects. Or what to do about a project that you don’t exactly know how to do yourself. This is happening now is our forever-long basement bathroom renovation. Seriously the longest reno is…
Shopping the craft stores for your next project is always fun. They have so many different things you can use to be creative at home. Have you ever tried silver or gold foil? Also called silver leaf, it’s an easy and dynamic way to bring some shine and texture to your next makeover. I’ve seen…
If you are coming over from Apartment Therapy, welcome! My 114 year old house is glad to see you. Since you’ve probably read about my laminate cabinet makeover, feel free to read about all of my other projects in the gallery here. Find out more about my old house here. Today we have another update…
Although the progress in our basement bathroom has been really slow, I finally have an update for you today. We have lights! Thanks to our good friend, and go-to electrician Nick, we had our new lights installed the other week. And I also got a chance to take daylight pictures of the space, so you…

We are making so much progress on the bathroom, it’s been really exciting. Since when you get to the point of painting a room, it’s practically done right? {Tell that to the vanity, toilet, shower and floor that still need to be installed} After we did a total gut of our basement power room, we’ve…
I’m pretty sure Dan and I are about the slowest renovators out there. How is it I can even write a DIY blog when it’s taking us a year to makeover a bathroom?! I’m so ashamed. But you can’t really blame us, this one has been a doozy, with a cement floor, old walls and…
The next stop in our basement bathroom remodel was to put in subfloor on the concrete floor that we self leveled but we had to find a way to make sure it was waterproof for our sometimes leaky walls. The answer was DRIcore subfloor, which we ended up getting and installing ourselves. I first found…
We’re continuing our work on the basement bathroom renovation. A complete renovation, that is. Starting with such an UG-LY before as we’ve had… You need to completely renovate right? We’ve taken out the toilet, shower stall, and started on the wall tiles, so now we’re up to the rest of the room and the floor….
Our newest renovation project is the basement bathroom. We have lived with the most terrible before-of-a-bathroom since we moved in 2 1/2 years ago and it was about time to do something about it. I shared all the before pictures on Monday if you are so inclined… don’t say I didn’t warn you. But progress…
