We're closing in on the show house opening in about a week and a half…
1st Week in the New House
Last week was our first in the new house. And boy was there work to do. Cleaning and painting and sanding the floors. We were like the Karate Kid all over the place. But it was so much fun.
We found some quirky things like the garbage disposal didn’t work, but thankfully the appliance installers fixed it for free 🙂
We also found mold in the basement on the drywall but that won’t be a free fix 🙁
We got our new stove and fridge. Check out that 5th burner in the middle! It’s the simple things that make us happy now 🙂
We painted lots of ceilings. Including the ones that have wallpaper under the previous coat of paint like this in my office closet. I was up there painting and it wrapped right around the roller.
I don’t know why you would paint over wallpaper but it might not be a bad thing since it’s protecting the plaster underneath.

We also sanded the floors. We planned to refinish them and did it all on our own. It’s not to hard, just a bit time consuming. But thankfully there were friends over to help.

Sanding produces a lot of dust.

Which you have to sweep up and vacuum up and tack cloth up.
In the midst of all my work one day I came down to the kitchen to find this.
These are roses from the backyard in a vase I found in the attic. I love that about old houses you can find wonderful old things both tucked away and in plain sight. The Chef clipped them for me and put them in the vase 🙂 Aren’t they beautiful?
I think I might use this as inspiration for my office decor. The good thing is that we have roses all over the backyard, nine bushes to be exact. I’ll showcase them in a later post.
Moving day is Saturday. More house adventures to come soon!
we have the same stove! its nice, isn’t it?
