Hello! Happy almost 2014. I'm super excited to show you my 2013 Year in Review…
2014 Year in Review + Link Up
Welcome to the 2014 Year in Review! This is a collection of what’s been happening over the past year, a best-of blog posts, kind of like the Oscars. OK, maybe not, but at least you can see what kind of progress I’ve made at my home, or progress I haven’t made. You know, for all those DIY projects we’d like to get to but don’t. Below are links to some of my favorite projects of the year. Tell me which are your favorites!
At the end of the post is a link up for you to share your favorite posts of the year. If you’re not a blogger, then you can see all kinds of projects from those who do link up and get some ideas for what you’d like to accomplish in your own home.
Ready? In no special order, here are my favorite projects of the year.
Makeovers!
Upstairs Bathroom Makeover In this room we replaced the floor, vanity, toilet, painted the trim and door, ceiling, hung up art and made a fake roman shade. It’s amazing what a few small and inexpensive changes can make. Click on the link for all of the projects listed and see the transformation unfold.
Old House Fireplace Makeover My home office is actually a project in the works, which I’ll share more of next year. But I did show the fireplace makeover. I’m lucky enough to have one in the room, even if it’s non-working.
Our backyard got a major makeover this past year also. We changed the landscaping and installed a new flagstone patio. It’s a completely different space back there and we love spending time in our new yard.

Projects in the Works
No summary of this past year would be complete without a list of the things I’ve started and not yet finished. Let’s call it projects-in-process.
The basement bathroom renovation. We’ve completed half the reno but the shower still needs to be umm, started. We are shopping for the shower basin as we speak. Look for updates on this soon.
A major and ambitious project I’d like to complete in my lifetime is to organize my photos. I started it and yea, that’s about it. Many people out printed photos in albums, or print photo books. I plan to do both. Wish me luck!
Sometimes a makeover takes me months to complete. There I said it! Not everything happens quickly around here. Like this chair makeover. It’s still sitting in our basement. Ahem. Yes it is. Needs a paint job among other things.
Then there’s the master bedroom. I made a list of things I’d like to do in it and can’t seem to make up my mind, so it’s been stalled. We did get some new furniture, curtains and a rug, so there has been some progress. Come see if I can decide what I’d like to do in there!
Decor Adventures Elsewhere
Each month I write about projects and ideas at several different blogs. It’s so fun to share projects will lots of different readers, plus they are ideas you haven’t seen before! You can find me at:
Life Updates
The biggest news of mine this year was that we had a baby girl! It was just at the end of November, so we’ve barely been home a month and are getting used to life with her at home. I will be sharing some baby things next year, namely her nursery and how we’ve prepared our home for life with a little one. I look forward to telling you about that.
Otherwise, I left my full-time job in April of this year and as many of you know, have been working on my Ph.D. ever since. Talk about a long project! I’m currently writing my dissertation so while I look for what my next career move will be, I get to spend time home with my little buttercup and write a very, very long graduate school paper.
Thanks to my fellow co-hostessest, Jenna at Jenna Burger Design and Carrie at Making Lemonade. Go visit their 2014 Year in Review posts too!
Tomorrow I’ll be sharing a quick New Year’s Even project with you. Get your champagne glasses ready, see you then!

I always love seeing everything wrapped up in one post. You accomplished so much and I still can’t believe you did it all being pregnant. Love the link up too.
Thanks Julia! You’ve always been an inspiration for me as a blogger. I just love your style. Thanks for coming over to see the post and have a happy new year!
You’ve had quite a year! I’m really impressed with what you accomplished while pregnant. Good luck with writing your dissertation. I know you’ll be glad to finish it and get on with life.
Hi Paula,
Thanks for the kind words. Yes I will be glad to be done with my dissertation, then I can do more blogging 🙂 Thanks for linking up!
