Craft Fail, How Not to Stencil a Drawer
Hello! Hope you had a nice weekend. I was bachelorette for the past few days since hubs went to visit some friends. Ahh, alone time to craft, just what every blogger loves.
I made myself a super long to do list and have to say got most of it done. Along the way though there was a craft fail. Oh no, the dreaded craft fail. When a project does not go how you expected. In fact it comes out totally wrong. Yes sirree, my blissful weekend alone to craft hit a roadblock.
It started with the free dresser I got on the curb.
The top two drawers came in parts so I figured while they were apart I’d make the most of it and try a stencil on the drawer bottom. Try ended up being the key word in that sentence.

Paint the drawer bottoms silver, punch circles out with painters tape, position them to make a nice pattern and then paint over the tape with white. Then I’d peel off the tape and ka-pow! Instant beautiful stencil.
How much of that plan was successful? About none.

I was ready for success though. I had my drawers, supplies and even painted the drawer bottoms. Then the fail started.
I had an idea to lay a strip of painters tape on a piece of poster board to punch out the circles for the patters. Does painters tape come off of punched poster board? Oh no, don’t even try it. I think I peeled apart every layer of the poster board but the tape would not budge. Then I tried to punch the circles with the tape facing up so it wouldn’t stick on the poster board. Did it stick to the punch? Of course.
My compromise was to just tape on the punched circles in the drawer in the pattern I wanted with the thought to paint over them. This would work certainly! I tried to convince myself many times. Don’t try this at home. Really.

But still I hoped and then my hopes were dashed.

Have you ever had a craft fail?
I’ve had so many fails it’s not even funny! You’re a brave girl for trying- I usually ignore the inside of things – it’s easier that way 😉
Awww don’t be discouraged! It’s such a cute idea…and stencils can be really frustrating sometimes!
Stopping over from Stories of A to Z!
What’s the saying? You haven’t failed, you’ve just discovered techniques that don’t work… It was a darling idea.
Ag! I know exactly how you feel!! I just made a new cover for what I thought was a pillow form. But when I took off the old cover it was just lumps of crappy polyfill. My husband convinced me to use it anyway and my pillow turned out to look like a lumpy weird non-shape. Such a bummer when you’re so excited about the result!
