Welcome to my holiday home tour, where my old house's halls are decked in my…
DIY Outdoor Plywood Holiday Trees
Today is filled with a ton of holiday decorating ideas for you, but instead of for inside, the Behr Paint DIY Experts have come up with a bunch of outdoor projects.
And just in time for December so before the weather turns terrible, you can create some of these at your own home. I made these DIY Outdoor Plywood Holiday Trees. I never made outdoor decor for the holidays before and I love them, come see!
If you’ve already decorated the inside of your house, here are lots of ideas for bringing cheer to the outside. Either in your yard, on the porch or back patio. We sometimes decorate the outside, although not very often, but this got me excited to put up lights on the house and make it look as festive out there too.
To cut trees out of 3/4″ plywood, draw the tree using a straight edge and pencil. Cut straight edges with a jigsaw. It will only take about 10 minutes to cut 3 trees. Pressure treated plywood is best for the outdoors, since it will withstand the elements.
Lightly sand the edges and flat surfaces with a sanding block to remove any debris. Brush off the sawdust and you are ready to paint.
There are a lot of options for outdoor painting projects. For this one I used Behr Exterior Premium Plus Ultra, which is a paint and primer in one. It comes in various finishes and of course you can have it mixed in any color in the Behr color spectrum. For these trees I wanted a deep blue green, like the evergreens that grow in New York, where I live. They are beautiful all winter long, even when they are piled with snow. The color is called Abysse.
Grouping three trees created a pretty set up on our back patio that was looking otherwise barren after the lights and patio furniture was put away. First I set them up and added leftover tree branches. Did you know they give them away for free at Home Depot (and probably other places)?! It’s a great way to add greenery to your holiday decorating.
To make the display festive I added a few lights and a reminder of the big day. It looks so great on the patio, I don’t know why I didn’t decorate outside sooner!

I love these – such a festive addition to outdoor decor.
Oh I love these! I might give these a go and drill a few holes in them to thread outdoor lights through.
