Hello! Hope you are having a lovely week. I've been doing so many projects around…
Dry Wall is One Exciting Adventure
Y’all, I promise you I’ll show lots of pretty pics of my place just as soon as this closet renovation is complete. I promise! And I’m not a big promiser. And I live in the North so I don’t know who I am thinking I can say “y’all” 🙂
Our closet renovation has been a few weeks of before pics, decon, and now drywalling.
Hubs hates it. Drywalling that is. We discovered that in the middle of the project. Bless his heart, he has all the tools and everything but vowed to hire this out next time. On to the pics.
You saw the lath filled closet after paneling and plaster removal. I kind of liked it if you’re going for that rustic-your-closet-must-be-empty-forever kind of look. But we’re not. Thankfully.

And now we have drywall. The light at the end of the tunnel. It’s even on the ceiling.

Which we learned after the fact that you’re supposed to do the ceiling first then the walls, to hold up the ceiling. Guess who did that backwards? Oops.
The Chef is super fast at mudding. First you swipe it on.

Then you tape,

Then you mud again and again and again.

Can’t forget the sanding. We hung a drop cloth over the door to keep the dust at bay but it’s all over the room regardless. Mucho dusting is in my future.

But I am OK with that. Priming started on Monday and now I get to put the fabulous glossy blue on the ceiling. I picked one out. There is an end to this closet renovation, install is on Friday!

its looking awesome! good luck with all the dusting 😉
Ooooh isn’t drywalling the worst!? I think everyone hates it! Boooo drywall. It’s a must, but man is it a pain (and a lot of dust when your mudding and sanding it away). You guys are making great progress though. 🙂
(Funny – when I saw the first pic of the drywall on the wall I thought, “Uh oh – they should’ve done the ceiling first”… then you wrote about how you realized after that the ceiling goes first. I’m sure in a small space like a closet, it’s not a huge deal anyway!) 😉
Skye – Yes believe it or not I will be dusting the walls with the swiffer 🙂
Kerry – Yea, too bad we didn’t know about that ceiling bit, but it seems be secure, let’s hope!

You’re making me reminisce about when we did our closet(same as this;plaster and lath everywhere) except I was 7 months pregnant and trying not to die from all the dist this job created. Those are not days I wish to go back to:) You’ll be so glad to have your fabulous closet in the end:)
DRYWALL DUST IS THE DEVIL!
Thanks for linking up! My whole house is plaster and lathe and luckily we are purchasing a new house for the land we just bought so I won’t have to be the one to replace plaster with sheetrock haha
Can’t wait to see the finished product! 🙂

Oh rules shmules! I’m sure the ceiling will stay put without the walls holding it up. You did use screws not nails, right? LOL When you do a large room only the drywall sheets that perimeter the room actually get that extra support anyway. The sheets that are in the middle are only held up by screws. So there you go. You’re totally fine.
I don’t mind the drywalling, but the mudding and then years of vacuuming dust out of rugs –that’s what I hate. But it’s all worth it … I think.
