I absolutely love living in an old house. The character in our home is so special and once in a while we find neat objects in different places. A while back I showed you some objects we found since we moved in last June, which included an old racket, some wooden rulers, and a non-working level.
I’d been wanting to get these hung up in a gallery wall in
the side foyer, all I needed was a little trip to Ikea to help me out. Ikea is an hour from here, in another country so it’s not exactly a jaunt down the street, but they have these wonderful shadow box frames which is exactly what I needed for my project.
These are all items we came across in some place or the other. It’s a fun little old house quirk, finding objects that others left behind a long time ago. Sometimes a really long time ago. This shoe polish tin cost 29 cents and came from a store I’ve never even heard of around here. And the silver spoon above it was shining in the sun one day while I was digging in the garden.
How about a game of badminton anyone? This racket was in our garage hanging way up in the rafters.
You all know the story of the keys. On closing day the previous owner and neighbors kept handing us piles of keys for the house. We have no idea what they opened. But there were so many that I just had to make some fun art out of them.
And how about the fold able rulers. Remember those? These pieces don’t belong to the same ruler, but they were also both found in the garage. That bottom one has a little label on it with three initials. I wonder who that person was?
These are definitely conversation starters when people come over. See the level on the far left? It’s not level anymore. We tell guests how these little things are pieces of our house’ past and now it’s present. It’s like knowing a bit about who was here before us. Maybe some day we’ll have to leave something meaningful for a future owner to find.
It felt so good to get these up on the wall. We’ve only been here a year, but it’s progress 🙂
