How to Hang Plates on the Wall
Morning readers! Yesterday I showed you a fun little housewarming party activity we did here at Casa DA when we had some friends over this past fall. We had them decorate plates to hang in our house with their well wishes for our first place. Today I’m going to show you how to hang plates on the wall. It’s so easy and you can do it without seeing any of the hardware too.
This was such a fun project to create some sweet memories in our new place. First the secret is Disc Hangers (affiliate link). I first saw these on The Lettered Cottage way back and kept them in the back of my mind to use some day. I wanted them because you don’t see any hardware to hang items. Simple and clean-lined, that’s what I wanted. They are easy to order online and shipped super quick; you can find them here (affiliate link).
To use them, you moisten the disc and secure it to the back of your plate then let it dry overnight. Make sure you wait, even if you want them up right away. You don’t want any plates crashing to the ground cause the glue is wet.
To make my arrangement I used a technique I saw online where you make a grid of your art on a piece of paper and then hang it on the wall, then nail in the holes, hang up your art, pull the paper away and presto! Art on the wall. This actually can be done with different wall arrangements, plates, art or photos, etc.
To get started I pulled out a piece of packing paper that came in box from an item I ordered. I was that thick butcher paper. I laid it out on the counter space which was just about as big as my wall area.
Then I arranged the plates on the paper how I wanted them to look on the wall. This way I could move them around without having to hammer a new hole in the wall. This was only a visual.

Then I removed the paper from under the plates and hung it up on the wall with painter’s tape. Now you’ll see the placement of your art/plates.

Once you carefully remove the paper, you’ll have all your nails all ready to go.

Hoped you learned something today with our plate art! The Disc Hangers come in different sizes too, so you can find the perfect one for your size plates or art. Find them online here (affiliate link)
Let me know if you’ve tried any techniques to hang things up, I’d love to hear about them.
Disclosure: This post is not sponsored by Disc Hangers, I just like them. This post contains affiliate links.
What a fun idea! I love the paint colour, too, it looks great.
Great idea! I like the paper template. I bought some dischangers as well but haven’t used them yet. I appreciate you doing the work before me so I could learn the right way to hang them ;-).

love the plate hangers! so smart!
i wish i knew about them when i hung plates on the wall.
I have 16 plates to hang 12″ 8″‘ in a wall space 8′ x 4’ and i want them all level up and down and vertical. Where can i get a piece of graff paper that large?
Hi Anonymous,
You can definitely tape a few pieces of paper together, even newspapers or wrapping paper would work!
Great! Now, how do I hang GLASS plates so the hanger isn’t seen?
Any ideas?
Hi Lorraine,
There might not be a way to do that with these, since you’d see them, bu there are a few options for wall plate hangers like this one. Or you could always put them on thin shelves on the wall to hold the plates. Hope this helps!
I want to hang plates in the space over my kitchen cabinets. I am undecided to hang them all straight or one higher and the next lower. Any suggestions on how to accomplish my dream. My wall is burgundy and the plates are black and white. I wanted the plates to really pop on my wall. Any suggestions you could offer would be great. Thanks!
Hi Pam,
I think it depends on the wall space you are hanging them on and that both options would work well. Say you have only 18 inches tall and a wide space, then hang them all next to each other in one row. Or if your wall space is “taller” then you can stagger the plates. I bet they will look great on that color wall. I hope this helps!
Great tutorial. Thank you for sharing.
I have a plate from Turkey that is not flat on the back. It’s textured and is designed so it shows through on the front. Kind of had to explain but it’s not flat and actually painted. So I wonder if these would work? Do you have any info on that? Thanks.
Esto resultó hermoso! He visto el truco objetos en las paredes, pero nunca hubiera pensado usarlo con los platos. Gracias por compartir tan gran idea!
Thank you so much for your sweet idea. I like all.
Hi, did you have any problems with these plate hangers? Plates haven’t fallen off have they? I’m planning to buy these but very apprehensive
Hi Sara,
These hangers have held up great! I think they still have a variety of sizes and they were shipped really quickly when I got them.
I tried the Disc hangers and have lost four plates. I followed the directions on them to a tee. After hanging for a few months they fell. Some of the plates cost more than others. I was doing a plate wall in my kitchen. Lost one of my favorite plates. Going back now and using the wire hangers.
I’m sorry to hear these did not work for you and that you had broken dishes. I have since taken these plates down but they did hang up well for years.
