Hello friends. Hope you had a nice weekend. We got to spend some time at…
How We Threw Away the Closet
Happy Monday all. Lots of fun happened this past weekend, namely we got our closet installed! And I will show pictures just as soon as I can but first I wanted to tell you about how we got rid of all the paneling, plaster and garbage when we took the closet apart.
When you do home renovation projects there’s lots of garbage right? And it’s not necessarily items you can recycle or giveaway or throw away in your regular trash right? We had just this situation when we demolished our old master closet for its renovation.
By the time we started tearing apart the closet we knew we needed some kind of way to throw away all the stuff we were tearing down. With the following considerations:
1. We live in the city and don’t have room for a full sized dumpster
2. Don’t have room for the rental and disposal of a dumpster in our budget
3. We weren’t going to fill a whole dumpster with the {relatively} small amount of garbage that would come from a small closet and
4. We knew we couldn’t just throw this stuff away in the garbage because you can get a big fat fine for that.
So what did we do with all the heavy construction materials? Enter The Bagster.

Not only does it have a fun name, it’s was such an ease to use. The Bagster is from a waste management company and basically is as they call it “Dumpster in a bag” It holds about nine cubic feet of trash and you can just set it up right in front of your house and load it up. {There is our large maple tree and tree box which will get a makeover paint job in the near future}.

Lots of plaster fits in there.

Then you simply call, or go online to schedule a pick up and a huge truck comes over, {hopefully there is no car in the way}, and grabs it up. How easy is that?

This really was a great solution for our closet project and I highly recommend it. The bag was about $30 and rates are based on the area you live in. We paid around $90.
Have you ever a simple, affordable solution to your recent project? Have you used the Bagster? I’d love to hear your tips.
I cannot wait to see your new closet!
We thought about bagster when we started our demos, but figured out pretty quickly that it wasn’t going to be worth it. We can get a dumpster for $300-$400 and know that we’ll have enough or get a bagster for $25 with $125 pick-up and have it emptied a bazillion times. It wouldn’t have been worth it. However, for any smaller projects we might end up doing, we will definitely consider it again.
Hi there, wow, that was a lot of plaster!! Y’all worked really hard to get all of that out. I have a question about the disposal method……do they empty and then leave the bag or do you have to buy one every time? Thanks! Also thanks for sharing all your great ideas and talent with me and your other your readers!
Take care, VBg
Hi all!
VBG, they do take the bag with all the stuff in it so if you wanted to use another you’d have to buy one. I think they are around $30, and it was very easy. We saw 2 down the street too! They are catching on for sure.
