Why You Should Install a Keyless Deadbolt
Once we had children, I couldn’t help but think of ways to make my life simpler. Like getting rid of excess stuff, to having a vacuum do the work for me, life has been about simplification and saving time.
One product I actually put on my baby registry was a keyless door entry system because all I could think of was how I would manage keys, a baby, a diaper bag and all that stuff. Sadly nobody got me that system, but recently I got to work with Schlage® to install one and am going to convince you why you should install a keyless deadbolt too.
Using a touchpad to get into your home, or even an app on your phone to open a door seems like living in the time of the Jetsons. But it’s really an amazing way to upgrade your door hardware, allow people to get into your home even if you aren’t there, and get inside without fumbling with keys.
Here are some reasons why you should install a keyless deadbolt.
They Look Good
Door knobs are the jewelry of the outside of your home. With so many looks and finishes, new door knobs will add style and curb appeal to your space. You can match them to your existing hardware or just upgrade all your knobs to new ones.
These were our door knobs before. They were just a simple brand knob and deadbolt. Recently it was hard to get the key into the bottom lock and I actually bent it trying to do so. Since you had to use the key for the top and bottom, I was always frustrated by how long it took especially when I was holding a baby and a bunch of things.
We installed the Schlage Sense™ system, which is a keyless deadbolt, and an interior and exterior handle. This is the Touchscreen Deadbolt and Handle set with the Altitude Interior Lever in Satin Nickel in the Century Trim style. Photo by Schlage.
Here is the door now with both the deadbolt, outside and inside handles installed.
Installation is Easy
We once called a locksmith to finish the installation of a simple door knob after working on it for two hours. Talk about frustrating. I completed the entire Schlage® keyless deadbolt and handle myself in about 90 minutes, only because I was reading the instructions so carefully, I wanted to make sure I did it correctly.
My husband came to hold on the touchpad for me and commented that the bolts to hold it in were nice and guided so you could secure them easily (unlike the two hour one we tried to install a while back).
The instructions are very clear, there’s even a video to watch on how to install the deadbolt and templates to use if you have to drill holes into your door. Plus the deadbolt comes with batteries so you don’t have to find your own.
They Simplify Your Life
This sounds like a tall order but here are some of the things to consider about installing a keyless deadbolt.
- If you forget or lose your keys you can still get in your home.
- If you already started the car and have to go back inside, one of you can do that and keep the car running or warming up.
- You can let people inside your home even if you aren’t there with the app.
- You can personalize up to 30 codes with some models (from 4-8 digits) to give to friends or relatives. Or maybe you own a rental and need to create codes for people who stay at your place.
- They keep your hands free for getting in or out of the house.
- This is a big one – They come with a backup key so in case the batteries wear out or there is an emergency, you can still get inside. This was important to our family and we’re glad we have that key.
- It’s affordable. Components from Schlage start around $35.00
- And they come with a limited three year warranty
