Well there technically is no chapter 1 for the chair, but I'm considering my finding…
Red Chair Makeover | Chapter 6
Last I left you with the red chair, we were all the way up to chapter 5 in the loooooong novel that is my first complete reupholstery project. That post was about putting on the sides of the chair and sewing a cushion cover. Before that we saw:
The Chair | Chapter 2 – This was the adventure it selecting the fabric. Clearance!
Chapter 3 – Chapter 3 is when we took all the old fabric off and lost some skin on our fingers too
Chapter 4 – Our most recent chapter saw us put on all the batting and the seat, back and arm fabric
Sewing a Cushion, Putting on Sides | The Chair Chapter 5 was about the sides and cushion. Our (hopefully) last chapter 6 includes the bottom and the arm covers and part of the back. The arm covers started as pieces of chipboard that The Chef cut out for me as exact copies of the old ones that were on the chair. After I positioned my batting and fabric I tried to staple the fabric on, but that didn’t work. So I ended up gluing the fabric to the back. I figured this was ok since it won’t get much wear and tear and the glue held really well.
On the bottom, I got a piece of webbing to cover things up. This costs only $2 a yard, so I folded over the edges and stapled it in place. Very easy.
For the back, I stapled a medium thick piece of cardboard along the top back, with the fabric underneath it, it makes for a sharp and straight top edge.
See how that turned out.
My very last step {which I wish I could show you now} will be to put nail head trim along the back. All the stores around here are out of it! There must be some serious upholstery projects going on because it’s no where to be found. And I really want to finish this up! So stay tuned and I promise I’ll write about the big red chair reveal soon.
