How to Make Lavender Eye Pillows
When Dan and I got married, his older brother and sister had already been married for several years and had children of their own. So I got not one, but two sisters and two brother in laws and at Christmas I wanted to give my sisters, a little holiday present they both would enjoy. Since they love yoga, I decided to make lavender eye pillows they could use for relaxation time.
These are so pretty, and easy to make. Plus they could be used to freshen up a drawer or closet. Here is how to make lavender eye pillows. I even made one for myself.
I made these pillows with an outer slipcover so it could be washed if needed. They can be made by just sewing a pillow with the fabric you want to use also.
Supplies:
- Fabric of your choice. I used a thin liner fabric for the inside pillow and a nice printed fabric for the outside pillow cover.
- Ribbon – To make a small tab to easily pull out the pillow
- Sewing machine and thread
- Scissors
- Rice
- Lavender
Instructions:
1. Cut the 2 rectangles for the pillow. I cut them 4 inches by 9 inches, which I felt was a good size to cover your eyes when laying down.
2. Cut a short ribbon for the tab. This was about 3 inches long.
3. Sew together 3 sides of the fabric together with the ribbon folded inside the fabric, so when you turn the fabric right side out, the ribbon will be sticking out.
4. After the three sides are sewn, turn it inside out. Next you’ll fill it with rice and lavender.
5. To make the mix, I used 1/3 cup of lavender and 2/3 cup of white rice. I choose rice since I know it can be warmed in the microwave for a toasty and relaxing treat.
6. I filled the pillow about 2/3 of the way full, that way it had room to move around inside the pillow and be the most comfy. {Where my finger is pointing below}.
7. After that I folded in the last side of the pillow edge and sewed it shut. Since I had room to work with, I did this on the sewing machine.
7. To make a pillow cover, just cut two pieces of fabric just a little larger than 4×9, sew the hem of one short side, then sew the other three sides together, with the right sides of the fabric together. Once you turn it inside out, it will fit your rice/lavender filled pillow perfectly inside.
I keep this on my bedside shelves and it gives off a nice relaxing fragrance all the time. It’s so soothing to use before bed or whenever you want a little comfort. In my yoga classes we always use them at the end and now I can bring my own.
I made the new ‘HOPE’ sign this week too. The glitter letters are cut from paper I got at Hobby Lobby. I’m considering it my unofficial word of the year. Much needed I think. So far it’s working 🙂
Hope you enjoy this little project and come back soon. I’ll be posting a hallway makeover with a stencil {and having a giveaway} and asking for your feedback in my first ever reader survey!

Great idea! I created something similar when I was pregnant, but I used a sock, so it wasn’t nearly as cute! I love the fabric; will have to try this.

Hi Cindy,
I wish I could get more lavender! I have to find a more affordable option than the local spice shop. Hope all is well with you too!
The stress I’ve been under I could definitely use these. Cute idea, Jessica!
