Welcome to my holiday home tour, where my old house's halls are decked in my…
Moving Day
Just about the most exciting and anticipated day of the year so far was our moving day into our first house last weekend. We packed, reserved the truck, solicited friends with muscles to help and we were ready!
Moving day is filled with adventures like getting up at the crack of dawn and car accidents and furniture that doesn’t fit into your new place. All were part of our moving day!
I got up at 7:15am to go get the truck and drive it 3 blocks home to our apartment when the most significant disappointment of the day happened. I hit a car trying to park a 24 foot truck. Yep, you heard that right.
No pictures needed for that part of the story, needless to say I was very upset and thankfully the car owner was super cool about it all. Cross your fingers from me there will be little I have to pay for.
We put the truck on the street and soon began loading things in. A 24 foot truck can fill up fast.
Thankfully we had friends to help.
Sometimes objects seemed to move on their own. Look out a walking table!
Sometimes you have to carry them yourself. Make that all times. Here’s The Chef with a piece. Look at that serious grimace on his face. Moving is tough business!
Most of the time you expect your furniture to fit inside the house and it doesn’t. You know important things like the box spring. Our old house’s staircase was a bit too narrow for our queenie sized bed.
But we tried to get it up there. Tried and tried and tried.
Too bad we had to order a split queen box spring. Who knew they had those? I knew they made them for king beds, but apparently the split queens are very popular in the city.
This was the most welcome sight of the day. An empty moving truck 🙂
This was not a welcome sight, everything in the living room!
The dining room became the depository. Anything that didn’t have an immediate home went here.
All in all it was a successful, hot, sweaty, fun day. Many thanks to our moving crew {this is only part of the team}.
What about your moving day? Any car mishaps? Too big to fit furniture? Other fun you want to share. Do tell so I don’t feel like the only one who can’t drive a 24 foot truck :-)~
what a beautiful home! congrats! and taking on the 10 tasks in 10 days during moving – wow! you must have some kind of energy! way to go and good luck.
We had a very similar problem with the mattresses. Except my husband and father just squeezed the mattress as much as they could and tore up the wall in the process. Oh well. 😉 I can laugh about it now.
