My Office, A Space with Potential

In our house we’re lucky enough to have four bedrooms. This means one for us, one for The Chef’s office, one guest room and one soon-to-be-all-me space, my office.

My office is in the front of the house which faces North and gets a good amount of light but currently is in sad shape. I’ve paid little attention to it since we moved in last June.Before we got in we refinished the floors on the entire second floor with the exception of the guest room. This included my office. Sanding a whole floor makes a lot of dust!

The room has 3 large windows that are still covered with the previous owner’s blue metal blinds. This is a good view of the trim in the space while we were painting the ceiling.

There also is a fireplace. We have another fireplace in the foyer right below this room.

I’ve since removed the old gas insert. Any heating company can do this. I didn’t know how to get it out at the time, and wasn’t about the mess around with gas lines, but in case you have one of these babies lying around a fireplace at your house, now you know, call the heating cooling company 🙂

The brick certainly needs to be washed. Anybody ever wash brick before? I have to look into that.

Last summer I painted the room in Dolphin by Martha Stewart.

It’s a light gray and the ceiling is white although in this photo there is not much contrast.

If you are very observant you noticed the pull cord that is for the light in the center of the ceiling. It’s an old house quirk.

Yes this is a small pain in the behind, but we’re currently upgrading our lighting and I’ll get a new fixture and a light switch {so modern right?} as soon as I pick one out. Horray!

Currently my office is a storage space for all my stuff. Craft stuff, work stuff, photos, picture frames I have yet to hangup. Just stuff.  The rug I picked out has arrived so that will be the first item I put in the space. Other than that I’m looking for some inspiration.

I love the color combination of this vase we found in the attic and the light pink roses from the backyard. With the light green on the chair and ottoman, it could work out well with the gray, black and white. What do you think?

Slowly but surely we’re making progress around here. I feel like all I’m showing you are the before pictures! But things are coming together in our still-new place. There’s always lots to do isn’t there?
