Hello! So I've started packing for Haven and am making plans with some ladies to…
New Dining Room Rug
Happy almost 4th of July! I love fireworks, do you? The 4th always reminds me of the time when I was little and my sister and cousins and I would go to the town park with our parents and lie on the blanket and watch a fireworks show well into the night. Oh those moments with family, love them!
I don’t have a 4th craft for you today, sorry. I haven’t been very crafty lately, I have to get back on that. But I do have an update in the dining room, yahoo!
This is a room we have been working on for about a year. Now that may seem like a long time but it’s actually fun to see a space evolve as you get pieces for it here and there and finish little projects along the way.
Last we visited the space, I showed you a new buffet that I got to replace the white buffet I painted and have for sale at the local store where I sell my furniture.
In between getting that I finally ordered a rug. I love what a rug does in a room, it’s so cozy in here now.
This is the Jute Boucle Rug by West Elm in flax. I wanted something natural for this space since the grass cloth and wood trim make things otherwise a little formal and the 8 x 10 in this rug was so affordable. I had been watching it online for months. You know, checking it out, stalking it, waiting for a sale.
One day I asked on Twitter if the rugs at West Elm ever go on sale and Abby at Crabby Fox was kind enough to send me a tweet when they had a rug sale. Isn’t that so sweet of her? Thanks Abby!
See what the miracle of tweeting can do for you? Save you $$$ on rugs! So I bought it that very day.
I also wanted something that contrasted with the dark wood floors. This color fit the bill but the rug comes in many other colors too.
Last October when I went to New York City for a conference I specifically went out of my way to go to West Elm and see the rug in person. We don’t have a store nearby and I wanted to check it out to see what it was like. I’m a plotter and schemer I tell you. I knew in October this was the rug for me.
It’s a great thickness and the jute is really soft.
I wondered that about the jute since it is a natural material and people might think it’s like grass, but it’s really nice and comfy even barefoot.
With this new rug the dining room is really coming together. I think I only need one more item for a full room reveal. Hence my partial shots 🙂
Here is the latest dining room to do list:
Pick out a wallpaper for in between the wall slats
Order the wall paper and hang it More on that here
Select a paint color for the top half of the room and paint More on that here
Decide if we are painting the ceiling or not Nope, not painting it

Buy and put up window film More on that here
Find fabulous fabric for the window treatments. More on that here
Make curtains (if I buy fabric) and hang them I got curtains from Ikea
Make frames for mirror wall art
Buy frames (or find some) for other wall art I have planned
Decide which color to paint buffet and then paint it. Painted it white and sold it
Find new hardware for the buffet Did not end up doing this
Find lamps and shades for the buffet, repaint part of the More on that here
Decide on/find other wall art?
Pick out and buy a rug
Get a new chandelier
Other lighting? More on that here.
Throw a dinner party to enjoy our new room!
Anyone else ever stalk an item online waiting for a sale? Don’t tell me I’m the only one!
I’m glad to hear that jute is soft underfoot – I am always hesitant about getting jute because I imagine it to be scratchy and uncomfortable on bare feet!
Love the new rug and the new layer it brings to the room. Also your pictures are looking awesome 🙂
The new rug looks good, I like the color you choose too!
I so love that rug! If only West Elm would ship to PEI! It looks amazing in your dining room.
Wow, your rug looks great – looooove the texture! I’m glad I could help!
Your list is almost complete, and I’ll be checking the mail including all avenues of social media for my invite! What should I bring? 😉 And, hey, thanks for pinning my little project today! You rock!!! Oh, I think it’s double thanks for your polished river rocks post – what a great finishing touch 🙂
Looks great! Glad to know it has a good feel to it. I’ve considered something similar for a few spaces in our house.
I love that jute rug! The color is fabulous! My current obsession is burlap and unbleached organic cotton. Those natural fabrics are just fantastic! I checked out the white dresser you are selling as well. I am in LOVE with it! It’s beautiful! I love the curvy lines. Whoever gets it is a very lucky homeowner!
