We're closing in on the show house opening in about a week and a half…
New House Preview Pictures
Although we’re still waiting on a closing date from the bank, we’re so anxious to get into our new house. I wanted to share some photos, so you know why. It has large rooms, amazing woodwork and plenty of opportunity to make it ours.
As a disclaimer, pay no attention to the current decor. It’s the seller’s of course. Here is a look.
This is the sitting area right as you walk into the front door. The fireplace doesn’t work and we plan to repaint it. That mantle is really long and I can’t wait to decorate it – not with roosters. Sorry if you like roosters 🙂
And check out that staircase! It’s split, so there is about 6 steps like this down the hall, then it meets to go to the 2nd floor.
Here is part of the living room. Notice the nice wood floors and the stained glass windows. {Not the carpet and couch}.
Next up is the dining room. This room might be the biggest decorating challenge because I am not in love with those vertical wood strips on the walls and I don’t have any ideas on what to do with them otherwise.
They are original to the house I’m sure and I don’t think I will take them down so we’ll have to come up with some other solutions. Ideas?
Next up, the kitchen. This is part of it and if you notice, there is a light lime green on the walls which we will paint of course. We’re thinking of a light grey for now.
Not in love with that back splash either, but it will have to do. The current owner remodeled this not long ago and it’s a really nice kitchen. See my tea mug in the foreground? That’s the island, yay!
One part of the house that needs a makeover is the basement. There is wallpaper on parts of the walls and pink paint on others. The carpet needs to be replaced too, but there is a ton of storage and bathroom down there.
Before picture ahead! Yes this bath needs some TLC.
Lastly, this is one of the bedrooms. We saw beyond the red carpet when we looked at this house 🙂 It will come up before we move in.
Nine foot ceilings! Think of me painting them if a few weeks 🙂
What do you think of our soon-to-be new home? Like it, love it, got ideas for the dining room and bath?
What a pretty house! The kitchen is beautiful.
its beautiful!
Depending on your style, I could imagine the vertical rectangles in the dining room as a neat area to display pictures. It already draws the eye. Why not take advantage of that?… Or paint it in muted shades to lessen the “BAM, I have useless rectangles on this wall” effect.
I LOVE it! I also envy you. I had to sacrifice a 120 year-old farmhouse to “progress”. An antique looking sort of dark wall paper for your dining room squares would tone down the beautiful wood.
Hi Lorra,
Thanks for the comment. We ended up putting up grass cloth wallpaper in the dining room. I plan to show the room makeover soon!
I agree with Lorra, about the envy and the wallpaper. I don’t blame you for not wanting to paint the woodwork in your house. If I could have found an old house in the beautiful shape you have, I would feel the same way. Having said that, the wainscotting in the dining room did seem “unfinished” somehow and leaves you with a sort of “stuck in a play-pen” feeling. I think wallpaper in the rectangles is a perfect solution. I am excited to see how it turned out!
We gave up and decided to build a modern version of a craftsman. Instead of dark and moody and gorgeous handcrafted woodwork, we will end up with white and light and bright! Hope I love it as much as I do the originals!
