Today I'm about to show you photos you've never seen before on my blog. They…
New Living Room Rug
Leave it to me to get a new living room rug just after I show you the whole room tour last week! But it’s true. I switched out the rug only a few days after I snapped the pics. I came a cross an amazing bargain and couldn’t pass it up. A new rug had been on my wish list for the space and finally it’s here.
My living room is a sea of beige. Beige walls, beige furniture, beige rug. It’s way too blah. Secretly I think of ways to add some personality to this room. I guess that’s why it took me so long to show you all its pictures? Maybe hoping personality would show up one day without a dent in my wallet.
I’d been looking for something with white and charcoal in it, to coordinate with the curtains because the old rug had seen its day. I got it about 11 years ago when I moved into an apartment on Long Island, where I lived for about 5 years. It was perfect then, 5×8, tan, some texture and I probably only paid about $40 for it.
When you get closer to the rug you’ll see just how dirty it is. Eeww.
See what I mean about the beige?
My friend at work is a bargain hunter like I am and saw an ad on Craigslist for a local liquidation sale. So one day on our lunch break we headed over and it turns out we hit the jackpot of sales. They had tons of stuff and it was crazy cheap. Including rugs. I wasn’t even really looking for one, but they were about 75% off retail price, so I brought one home.
What do you think? Definitely an improvement in my book.
This is the Company Hemmed Jute Rug from The Company Store in frost grey. It turns out the tent sale is a huge warehouse that gets returns from large companies and sells the items on ebay and Amazon. Except the large items, since they don’t want to ship them, and that’s where we lucked out.
This rug retails for $179 and guess how much I paid for it? Only $55! I couldn’t believe it when she told me the price, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. No stains, no fraying, how could I not bring it home? I paid, we put it on the car, and before we knew it we were back at work, new rug owners.
To prep the space I cleared out all the furniture, OK well just the ottoman is on the rug. So I cleared that out. Well plus the end tables.
Then I moved back the loveseat. If you spy Christmas tree needles on the ground, you would be correct. Only in this house. I need a maid.
Then I got to work with my trusty wood floor cleaning routine, which consists of sweeping and steaming. This is a good shot of our floors and their actual color. We have these original 113-year old wood floors throughout the whole house except the kitchen and bathrooms. I can never get over how shiny they are.
And then the new rug was home for good. After I put down a rug pad that is. The new rug is 6×9, so I got a 5×8 rug pad. It helps when putting down such a large rug, so the pad doesn’t stick out, but it’s also they only size they had on my late night run to Target.
And there we have it. New rug, great deal. I’m super happy with it, no more beige. Now if I could only work on the walls… See the rest of the living room here.
Looks good! So much better than the old rug and what a great deal!
