You know I've recently been making over our side foyer. This was an area of…
Our Old House Foyer
At my house, there’s never one project happening at any one time. It’s usually more like 5-8. In addition to the basement bathroom, which is coming along nicely, I’m planning to do some updates to the walls in the upstairs hallway and here in the foyer. After putting up curtains a while ago, this space has finally felt mostly “done” and I really love it. While we don’t sit in it or actually do anything else in it regularly, it’s a beautiful room to greet guests and constantly redecorate for the holidays.
The homasote bulletin board has been sitting empty for a few months and I think it’s about time for me to do something with it. Either change it or take it down, or get something up on it already. Overall when I look at this view, I’m a little underwhelmed by all the tan going on, as I was in the living room.
These walls are Creamy Mushroom by Behr. While I like it, it’s a little bland sometimes. I secretly wonder if I should paint some of it white. See that back wall with the broken sunburst mirror on it? {Yea it fell one day} It’s crying out for some excitement. Don’t you think? And the wall under the stairs. Paint them to match? Do a stencil? Make my own wall art?
The other side of the room by the curtains is good, but not fantastic. I don’t know if I should be doing something else to this space? What do you think? The curtains are new and of course I switch out things on the mantel. Part of me wonders if I should change the accessories in here more often and part of me is thankful I don’t have another room to worry about decorating or cleaning up in so often.
The floor is an odd shape for a run, plus any rug would be half on the traffic pattern in from the front door, and half off. I’m so in love with neutrals but then I think, maybe I should add some fun colors to my life?
I brought this black cabinet down from our bedroom the other week. It was Dan’s bedside table, so I did a little furniture switcheroo like I love to do. I though the space needed something bigger than the table that was previously there.
And I’m always debating about painting those lanterns another color besides black. I think they work well against the white fireplace, but maybe a metallic charcoal would be fun?
I also stare at the floor and wonder if I should paint the brick there too. It is the color the fireplace used to be before the previous owner painted it maroon. I painted it white when we moved in.
This is what goes through my mind when I’m sitting in the living room. Maybe I day dream too much. Maybe I don’t need another thing to do. Maybe I should finish the other projects on my list first? Maybe I’m finally ready to just have some FUN in this house and do things MY way. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Yesterday I got to see the President speak live, which was pretty awesome and tomorrow is my sister’s housewarming and baby shower. So I’ve been a busy bee, both at work and home. But I have some fun projects in the works think gold, think stencil – and not in the same project), and Monday is an awesome giveaway right here. A $250 gift card to some major stores. I know you shop at them, so come back then and in the mean time: be awesome 🙂
P.S. Are you following me on Instagram yet?
Love the scene where the chair is and I think a pretty aqua and white or orange and white chevron design pillow would be perfect on that chair…yummy
I love your foyer! Actually our staircase is nearly identical, except your wood is a lot nicer. Did you refinish it? Its been hard picking a paint color for the walls because the staircase is so dark. I was going to paint it all white but I may leave it after seeing yours!
Hi Yvonne,
Luckily we bought the staircase as it was, we didn’t have to refinish it. All of the wood was unpainted and it’s really lovely. There are tons of options for paint colors. I would say get some samples and try them out. Then you’ll be sure to pick the best one for the space. Good luck. It was great hearing from a home owner twin!
