Paint Colors in My Home + Free Printable
I am definitely overdue for this post today! How about a round up of all the paint colors of the rooms and ceilings in my home? I collected all of them, both as a way for you to find all of them here on my blog and to see them all in one space. It’s amazing what all of the paint colors in my home look like together, I love them!
Stay tuned at the bottom of the post where you can get a free printable to keep track of all the paint colors in your home.
Many times I look at pictures of homes and wonder what exactly the color is on the wall and think:
Can I pick up a paint chip? Can I get a sample can? Is it available locally? What would that look like in my house?
So today I’m here to tell you all about the paint colors in my house. I thought I’d show you a picture of each color in the room it “lives”, so you can see what the colors look like on the walls.
Since we have wood trim, that is most likely American Chestnut {or so we’ve been told}, it took a very highly scientific method to pick the correct color for our spaces. Highly scientific.
It’s called, tape up some samples, then try some out and see which we like best!
That was when I was painting my very last room in the house, the dining room. And it’s a perfect place to start to show you what color we picked.
Driftwood Gray
This color is in the Martha Stewart line at Home Depot. I like that the paints come in low VOC and Driftwood Gray turned out to be a favorite of mine. This room is in flat and I love it so much I wish I painted every other room flat too. Why did it have to be the last one I did?!
The paint in the dining room is on the upper half of the walls only. The bottom half below the plate rail is in a gray grass cloth wallpaper I got at Lowes.
*Update Martha Stewart paint colors are discontinued. This color matched to Weathered Moss by Behr at Home Depot.
Chinchilla
When we moved into the house I knew I immediately wanted gray in the kitchen and Chinchilla, also my Martha Stewart was also a great match. It’s in semi gloss and is on the upper half of the walls above the all-white bead board.
This color is also discontinuted but you can ask for a color match at the paint counter.
Gotham Gray
Our living room got a paint makeover to Gotham Gray by Behr from Home Depot. This is a medium gray that instantly made the room feel cozy and completely changed the mood of the space. I always felt like something was off in the space before and never knew what it was.
If you are in doubt over colors, get samples and put them up on your walls. This color would be considered “dark” by most people, but it adds such personality to a room. These darker colors can look great if you have light furniture, in sun-filled spaces, and in any room where you want some real personality on the walls.
Creamy Mushroom
This was the first color I selected for our house. While I had been a huge fan of grey, I didn’t want it in every room, so I choose this neutral color to cover our living room, foyer, staircase and upstairs hallway. We bought 5 gallons of it and had tons leftover. We even used it in the basement for that mini makeover. Creamy Mushroom is a Behr Premium Plus Ultra color, found at Home Depot.
Update: This living room has since been painted in Gotham Gray (see above) and the Creamy Mushroom is now only in our basement, stairway, and hallway going upstairs.
Flint Smoke
For our bedroom, I wanted something in a medium grey/blue. Something with mood to it. We decided between a color called Atmospheric and Flint Smoke, and the latter won out. I absolutely love the color. Since our room was so big, we also got 2 gallons of this and ended up needing 1 plus a tiny bit of a second. I used that for our bathroom and front vestibule. Flint Smoke is by Behr.
Observatory
When we were totally remodeling our master closet, I thought it was time to have a little fun and paint the ceiling. But not in just any color, in a bold, deep, shiny blue. That’s where I used Observatory, also by Behr. It contrasts well with the white wax paper capiz shell chandelier that I made. I ended up using this color on several pieces of furniture too.
Grizzle Gray
This was the most recent color we used, specifically for our basement bathroom remodel. Grizzle Gray is by Sherwin Williams and is one of the best wall paints I’ve ever used. We have so much of it leftover, I’m still trying to think of where else in the house I’m going to put it. It’s a beautiful deep gray with soul. I think paint can definitely have soul.
Hale Navy
We used Hale Navy on the accent wall above our foyer fireplace and as the accent wall in our bedroom. It’s a true deep, navy that goes well with anything. Dark blue is a great neutral color that you can pair many colors, metallics, and accents with.
Hale Navy is by Benjamin Moore and there are lots of pictures of it on Pinterest.
Galapagos
This color is a bold teal blue that I painted in our upstairs hallway. I painted over a stencil project I did previously and created a wide stripe of Galapagos over the lower half of the wall. Galapagos is by Behr. This is in the flat matte finish.
Just to recap, Observatory, Flint Smoke, Ultra Pure White {not pictured}, Galapagos, and Creamy Mushroom are all from Behr, found at Home Depot. I believe they are all from the Premium Plus Ultra paint chips, although I have it mixed in the regular line, I didn’t need the paint and primer in one.
Chinchilla, Dolphin and Driftwood Gray are all from the Martha Stewart paint collection, which is now discontinued. Grizzle Gray is from Sherwin Williams and Hale Navy is from Benjamin Moore. I’ve actually not used many other paint lines, except for on furniture, but I hope to try some new ones in the future.

I recently created a Paint board on Pinterest. It shows the colors I used in my home and the colors I’d love to use someday. Paint is one of the least expensive ways to redecorate, who why not give it a try!
Jessica, Jessica, Jessica! I love them all!! Beautiful 🙂
Great choices, Jessica. I’m looking for a gray for my dining room. Giving me some swatches to think about …
Hi Susan,
Glad you like the colors. Although it seems easy, selecting the right color can be hard! Hope your dining room comes out great. Will I see you at Haven again this year?
I love Driftwood Gray, but they are all beautiful! Thank you for sharing.
I love your colours Jessica! It’s nice to see them all on one board too – they all go so well with each other and I’m sure they all flow nicely from room to room in your home.
Hi Heather,
Thanks. I had been wanting to put them all together for a while and was surprised to see I have more variety thank I thought. But of course I’m always thinking of new colors to use, sometimes I just need change!
Love this post Jessica…the Buffalo poster was my fav. 😉
Arc De Triumph too 😉
I love a colorful ceiling – that bold blue is great!
Kelly
I would totally let you pick out colors for my house! and paint too if you would 😉
Love them.
Debbie
Hi Debbie,
Thanks for the comment. As much as I like our paint colors, I’m always thinking of what new colors to try out. Sometimes I just need a change!
I could look at paint colors all day. You’ve selected a beautiful palette for your home.
I love the colors you selected for your home! Our home we just purchased was built in 1916 and looks very similar to your house. Thanks providing some paint color direction for us 🙂
Hi Audrey,
Glad these could help you. Of course, use the colors you love!
I’m so happy I found this. I live in a 1930’s brick colonial with ALL wood trim (that I believe is gum wood). Although I do like white trim, my husband would never let me paint our woodwork. And rightly so, it belongs in this house.
I’m so excited to finally find some pictures of paint colors with wood trim. I am looking to paint our bedroom gray, and these choices are a good start.
I am so happy I found this! Unfortunately, all the trim in our 1918 home was painted over a long time ago, EXCEPT for the dining room. But I have been scratching my head over what to do with it, because like yours, it has the partial wainscoting. It kind of looks circus-y to me (the dark wood stripes against white paint). What a great idea to use textured wallpaper! I am definitely thinking about doing this.
Hi Brittany,
I know what you mean about the circus look, I didn’t know what to do about the walls at first and didn’t want to paint it too dark. I hope your room comes out well when you decide what to do with it!
What a great post! I’m moving to an older apartment with dark wood trim and I’m leaning towards the ultra pure white however I’m wondering if it will be too stark and clinical looking. Is there another shade of white you would recommend or any decorating tips to offset the pure white?
Hi Jessica!
I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you for this blog! My husband and I are buying our first home and it has beautiful brown trim, but I just didn’t know what to do “about” it. That is, till now! 🙂
Thank you so much for the inspiration!
Hi Kacie,
So glad this will help you! Good luck in your house and let me know how it turns out!
Could you tell me where you got your velvet sofa? I love the color and shape!
i have been looking for colors of paint that go with our wood stained trim that looks just like yours! We too have a pocket door and the long windows and wide baseboards and the color looks to be the same as yours. I love the grays . Right now we have darker walls but we’re getting tired of always having a light on. Definitly going to try some of your colors Thanks for posting
Thank you for this! Our new house has lots of medium-dark wood trim and I have been having such a hard time finding colors that look good, but don’t make it look too old fashioned. LOVE your choices, right up my alley.
It’s amazing what a bit of colour can do to a room! I especially love the blue fire place with the mirror – it really makes it pop 🙂 xx
