Photo Frame Memo Board

A few weeks ago I was doing a mini makeover in a family member’s house without their knowledge.Yes you heard that, I do surprise makeovers to unsuspecting people when they are away. It’s fun! Part of that recent makeover was some eye candy on the walls. I love thinking of ways to reuse picture frames as you read about here and here and now was another chance to make something. I decided on a photo frame memo board to display memories.

To make yourself one of these fancy thangs, follow along below.

1. Start with an old frame and paint/color how you’d like

2. Get a piece of foam poster board they sell in the craft stores, they are about $1. Measure and cut it to fit inside the back of the picture frame just as a photo or backing would.

3. Since the foam board does not hold staples well I hot glued my fabric to the back of it with some batting in between. I let it dry by holding it together with clothespins.

4. On the front of mine I wanted some ribbon in which to tuck photos and cards, so I laid out the ribbon in the pattern I wanted then also hot glued that to the back and held it to dry with clothespins.

I literally sewed buttons on to the foam through the fabric where the ribbon crossed. These buttons were some my grandmother used to use.

This is what I ended up with.

5. Simply put the fabric covered board into the finished frame and you are all set. I didn’t hold mine in with anything, it fit nice and snug but you might want to tape it in or use glaziers tips if you want a more secure hold.

And that’s all it takes, 5 easy steps. Tuck in some mementos and you’re all set. Instant photo memo board.
