Sometimes my hubs and I text each other during the day to make plans for…
Progress in the Side Foyer
Happy Monday all. How was your weekend? Did you get a lot of things done, did you have some fun? Did you take some time to relax?
I did all of the above. On Friday I announced to the world I was going to make progress on the side foyer come heck or high water! OK, maybe I just told my Facebook friends, but I did promise I’d work on it and sure enough I got ‘er done! OK, well some of her done 🙂
The side foyer is the entry on the {you guessed it} side of our house which we use every day to come in and go out. In there we store coats, shoes, the fire extinguisher, reusable grocery bags, you name it.
It’s just now getting our attention since we moved in last June, a mini makeover of sorts, come take a look.
Last we left things I had made some serious progress on a rare snow day we had back in February. Oh my, am I that slow at projects, goodness! February? Thankfully I’ve moved things along here!
I got the top half of the walls painted and the wallpaper removed, a huge task and the starting point for the rest of the work.
Here is where things were for a while. Top half painted, but not much else done.

Next up I removed the boards with the hooks on them that we put our jackets on. They were mostly broken and pretty unsightly.
And guess what I found underneath? Unpainted paneling of course!

Once piece of paneling was so damaged we had to take it down. Of course there is always a surprise underneath. Damaged plaster! Wallpaper from an era gone by!

So we got to work repairing the holes and painting the trim and priming the paneling. Sometimes I do all these things at once as you can see below how I just primed around the drying Spackle. I’m impatient!

And where have we left off? With newly painted trim and bottom walls! The call to the electrician to replace that light goes in any day now.

Up next we see about knocking into that bottom half of the wall above to make some shoe shelves. See how we do later in the week!
But before you go, take a look at where our to do list stands:
1.Paint the bottom half of the walls white. It’s already painted paneling.
2.Remove the wallpaper in the hallway
3.Replace the trim on the walls with new or salvaged trim if we can find some that works. Paint it white.
4.Select a color and paint the top half of the walls and ceilings {still need to patch and prime the plaster on that one wall}
5.Remove the hooks and boards they are on
6.Make a shoe shelf in that half wall
7.Hang new hooks for jackets and such
8.Install some shelves on the one side
9.Replace the wall sconces now, or whenever we find some good ones
10.Hang up some art on the walls
11.Buy a new rug
12.Get some baskets to hold items like reusable grocery bags
See you back in the foyer soon!
Looks great, so might lighter! I’m just going to throw out there how cool the bottom part would look with a little MDF molding/paneling. 😉
