A fun little project I did this summer was turn a lamp into a terrarium…
The Real After of Craft Projects
Hi friends. Today I’m in Michigan for another work conference (I have 4 this month) but I’m loving all the travel because it means I get to see some new places and stay in some swanky hotels. Did you see this place? While I’m out and about for a bit I wanted to share with you some projects that I’ve done that have turned into something else… project fails! Yes, sometimes Do It Yourself turns into Don’t Try It Ever. Here are a three of my projects that have seen better days.
Remember the Dollar Store hurricane candle holders that I made a while back? These were the easiest craft project, not to mention extremely inexpensive at only $2 each.
Well, the sad news is that one of them broke 🙁
Yea, so now I only have 1 hurricane. They are just not the same as a matching pair. And I’ve been to the Dollar Store to make more and they never have the parts I need of course. I’m hoping this singleton can become a pair again soon. This beautiful duo with the cranberries and leaves? A thing of the past.
Speaking of candles, a little more disastrous than the broken holder was the disintegration of the glitter and snow candles that I put into the holders. After a few months all of the glitter and snow came falling off the wax candle. I didn’t even notice it in the foyer. Apparently that’s how often I dust.
Note to self, don’t use glue on wax candles. It doesn’t stick for very long.
It was far from saving, but actually came off pretty cleanly. I still use the candle, it just has much less sparkle than it’s previous life.
Last of the after-after the craft project makeovers is the painted plant pot that I made over just so we could rescue a plant that the previous owner left in our house.
Not only did we kill the plant die, but the paint came off the terra cotta pot. Lesson learned. Latex paint doesn’t like to be outside.
And now you know the truth! DIY sometimes doesn’t even work for me. So don’t beat yourself up if a project takes to long or doesn’t turn out, there’s always another try to get it right. And what fun would we have anyway if we didn’t have a project fail once in a while? We just get to start over 🙂
