Leave it to me to get a new living room rug just after I show…
Tall Dark and Handsome
One of my home goals this year is to address our nekked windows. Take the living room for example.
We have a set of three large windows with very large molding around them. I’m talking 118 inches from end to end. Good luck finding a curtain rod long enough to fit right? {That’s not $125, yikes!}
oooh we have a similar large windo in our living room…and i want to add curtains as well, but didn’t even think of the rod issue! We have a big window in our bedroom but just painted a wooden rod white (that was left with the house)…good luck with that! Let me know if you find a good source for cheap (but nice) rods!
Wow, that window is GORGEOUS. It almost seems sad to cover up that beautiful wood with curtains? What about a fun pattern/texture instead of the white you have now? With that said, we have a HUGE window in our living room and I used ikea curtains and love them.
Just stumbled on your blog from the re-paint of laminate re-do and had to share. I have tall ceilings (10′) and wide windows (one 17′ wall is almost all window) and after searching high and low for an affordable option on the curtain rod, I found several tutorials to make them out of electrical conduit (EMT). With some spray paint and a connector you can make them as long as you need to for a fraction of the cost of buying them. That is what I spent this morning doing.
Those stained glass details are amazing! I am having major window envy. 🙂
While I’m maybe a bit in the don’t-cover-such-gorgeous-windows camp, I understand that you want to warm up the room with curtains. We installed an Ikea curtain track system in our yellow guest room, and that’s infinitely extendable. They also sell a wire curtain “rod,” though either of those options might look more modern than you want to go in a house with older character like yours.
I agree with the comment about making the rods. However, if you’re not up for that look then scope out Joann’s with one of their 40% off coupons. I found some really long rods there for a sliding glass door in our old house. For gray & white panels look at West Elm and Target online. Look at curtains, sheets and table cloths (my preferred cheap curtain!) Or maybe go for the plain white or gray panel and then check out fabric.com for a contrast fabric to sew onto the bottom couple feet of the panels. Or you could make panels, but that can end up costing an arm and a leg.
I found an idea for your curtain rods in someone else’s blog. She used a piece of pvc pipe (yeah, the hard plastic ones) cut to fit and added finials on the ends. You could spray it if you don’t like white. Here’s the link http://alittleofthis—alittleofthat.blogspot.com/2010/03/pvc-pipe-curtain-rods.html
