I think I'm going to declare February 'Bathroom Month' here. We've been doing bathroom projects…
Tearing Apart the Bathroom
Our newest renovation project is the basement bathroom. We have lived with the most terrible before-of-a-bathroom since we moved in 2 1/2 years ago and it was about time to do something about it.
I shared all the before pictures on Monday if you are so inclined… don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Starting with the toilet. It was one of the older types, the plumber once called it something that started with an M? I have no idea. Anyway, it didn’t work well and run all the time, so it had to go.
I mentioned the tile was coming up so, now we got to see what was really underneath it all. We’ll need to take out all of it.
Where do you put a toilet you’ve just taken out?
In the shower stall of course.
We were just waiting to go pick up a Bagster so it hung out there for a bit. But the shower came down eventually.
To say this bathroom was about the worst construction job ever is an understatement.
This is what we found underneath the shower. Meaning, holding it up, leveling the floor, preventing water leakage.
Yes, that’s cardboard and plywood. Oh my gosh! This is about the time in the project that you have to take pictures because you cannot believe what you are seeing.
It’s also the time when you want to find the yahoo that did this and strangle them. Raise your hand if you’ve ever wanted to knock some sense into your home’s former owners. Crazy!
So we picked up the cardboard rigged as a shower floor and moved on. Love that half paint job too right?
On to the tile. Sadly it’s coming down too.
To be continued….. And yes there’s more craziness that we’ve found in the walls, stay tuned!
I hoping the rest of your bathroom demo went smooth
Ah yes, it has to get ugly before it can get beautiful huh? I’m sure all of your hard work will pay off!
Yikes. I am always cared of what I might find in demo!
Fun!!! As long as you don’t find anything structurally unsound, that’s always my concern. All the random cardboard shims tend to make me chuckle!
