Hello and happy Friday all! Isn’t Friday your favorite day of the week? I know it is mine 🙂
Since I met so many wonderful friends at Haven in June, I wanted to introduce you to them all. Over the next week I’ll have some of the amazing ladies over here at my place!
Why not start with my travel buddy Karah from The Space Between. Now prepare to be envious of this girl and her location…. The Caribbean!
Jealous? No need to be, you can live vicariously though Karah through her blog. Take it away Karah!

Well, hello Decor Adventurers! How goes it?
I’m Karah from the space between and I am wicked excited to be here today.
Well, maybe not as excited as I was in that picture … but still very, very excited. 🙂
I had the sincere pleasure of meeting Jessica in person at the recent Haven conference. Actually, she was kind enough to wait at the airport for my delayed flight to arrive so we didn’t have to go it alone. I will be forever grateful to her for that … and for our late night blog chats. So, so awesome!!
But, really, it is an honor for me to be here today.
This is where I normally am …
Yessirreebob, I live in the Caribbean.
But, what is a girl on an island to do in her spare time, you ask? I mean, one can only spend so much time chilling with the pups at the beach, right? 😉
In all seriousness, I very rarely go to the beach without bringing home something I then
try to decorate with. Like these two honkin’ pieces of driftwood I hung in my kitchen and now call open shelving. It sounds on-trend really, open shelving does.
And then, because I didn’t want to be left out of all of the mantelscaping (not a word?) going on in blogland, I took a bunch of my beach finds and created a little summer mantel.
Speaking of things I bring home from the beach, my little blog actually started with a post about a driftwood Christmas tree. I may or may not be infatuated with the stuff and have piles of it on our patio at all times. 🙂
And, when I’m not at the beach, or making driftwood randomness, I am picking up pallets from the side of the road to let accumulate in piles beside the driftwood make into something-or-other. Like the pallet word art hung in the kitchen and my new favorite project, the free, little storage crate I made to house our canned goods.
Ummm, yeah … that’s totally a piece of driftwood for a handle. And if you think it’s weird to have canned goods in a crate made out of a pallet, I had to make the crate so I could stop storing them in our tv stand. Now THAT was weird. Our house isn’t exactly the Taj Mahal of rental properties so I tend to get pretty creative with storage ideas.
And because one piece of pallet word art is never enough …
Ok, so when I’m not at the beach, or making driftwood randomness, or picking up pallets from the side of the road … I’m pulling doors out of dumpster bins and making them into a message board.

So, if you have any interest in watching someone use quirky things to try to make a home out of our breadbox of a house, it would be fun to have you come by the space between. Where I attempt to make the most of every space we’re in … this little Caribbean stop isn’t forever and you never know where we’ll land next.
Oh, and if you like homemade canvas silhouettes, number art and easy decor ideas I do try to work in some more main stream things every now and again, too. 🙂

I ‘met’ Kara a little while ago through a link up, and have enjoyed catching her projects since. Love pallets, love driftwood, and love, love Kara’s instincts for the DIY awesomeness she makes from them. Great write-up! Nice to get to know you a little better, Kara… and thanks, Jess, for sharing Kara on your blog. Now… if only a random stop in the Caribbean for, let’s say, at least a year was in the cards!!!
