Hello all. Hope your week is going along nicely. The summer is slowly coming to a…
Which Accent Wall Should I Paint?
Hello friends! Hope you are enjoying this time before the holidays. Yesterday I brought the decorations down from the attic. And then stared at them for 10 minutes, trying to decide what direction to go in. I’m thinking of some unique ways I can use my collection of red ornaments, gold accessories, green wreaths, metallic accessories, and other holiday paraphernalia in a new light.
In the midst of these holiday projects I find myself dreaming of painting an accent wall in our home. I mentioned my thoughts about this in my post on the foyer, and haven’t been able to get it out of my mind.
I blame it on this paint. The Grizzle Grey we used in our recent bathroom makeover adventures.
Oh the grey, the flat-ish finish, the saturation! The fact that we have 3/4 of a gallon left! I mean it can’t go to waste right? The roller is still wrapped up in the basement in the tray I used in the bathroom.
But to solve my agony over which wall to paint, I need your help. What wall should I paint?
I’m thinking either living room or foyer. Should it be this large wall behind the couch? My hesitation with that one is that we might not have enough paint for that wall, since it’s the largest in the room.
But I’ve also contemplated the TV wall in the living room, which is on the left of this picture. You can’t see it well, but I think it might be a contender since it would blend the TV into the wall more, plus give any visitor to the room a different perspective when they enter and leave the room. Maybe?
This is another picture of that wall. It’s where the silver dresser is. Do you think they grey would work well behind it?
Then there is the living room {on the right of this picture) wall that leads to the dining room. This one is a front runner since I always see people painting an accent wall on the long end of a room, rather than the short end, do you know what I mean? It might be a nice way to look into the dining room too, and we’d definitely have enough paint for it. If I painted that wall I’d probably paint those mirror frames white.
Yes, no?
Or maybe I forget the living room and paint a wall in the foyer? I’m hesitant to go there since I found this fabulous {on sale} grass cloth wallpaper that I’m dying to get up on that stairway wall.
I look at these pictures and they look so um, flat? I think we need some depth and texture in there. Maybe it’s time to take down the homasote bulletin board? It’s been empty for a while and I keep forgetting to put something on it. Or maybe I put a different fabric on it?
Then there’s the fireplace wall. I stare at it too and try to think of what do to. Should I put the grass cloth on the top above the mantel? Or accent that wall in a different color? This photo is from last winter’s decorating. I loved how simple it was, but every time I see these photos of that space I think something needs to change. Am I right or wrong?
I’m kind of lost. Help a girl out. Which of these walls should I paint? Living room? Foyer? None of them?
Maybe I need to put down the paint brush and forget about it for a while? Leave a comment, I’d love to hear what you think.
P.S. In other exciting news coming up this week I’ll share my first Product Picks post on Houzz and share a holiday craft with M&Ms. Yes, candy is not only for eating!
oooh i vote fireplace wall to make that white mantle/hearth pop!
Another vote for the fireplace wall ☺
I agree that you should accent the wall with the fireplace. I also think you should continue accenting one wall in each room. For example, the wall facing the stairs and last, the wall behind the couch. I love your accent color so much I want to copy it.
Great post.
Hi Joan,
I like how you are thinking! Now I’d just have to pick a color for the other rooms! Yes, that grey is nice. I did make some changes in the foyer but haven’t used the paint yet. I’m still deciding!
I just painted my first accent wall and it was my fireplace wall and MAN I’m glad I did it!! I think because you have that black surrounding the actual firebox, a black-ish fireplace wall will look insane. In a good way. Here is a link to my pic.

Janice, your fireplace looks amazing! You have my seriously considering it. I put up wallpaper in the foyer, I’ll show it soon, but I haven’t decided yet on the paint. Still figuring it out.
i vote either wall behind the sofa or fireplace wall, that color is so going to be so awesome anywhere, though!!
I did not read any of the other answers on purpose, I did not want to be influenced and yes, for the color and the room in question do the wall with the fireplace including the fireplace, may be you can antique the fireplace a little with a deeper color….
Good Luck will look great and I cannot wait to see it when it is finished.
Edith
Hi Edith,
Thanks for the note! I did make some changes in the foyer and will show them soon. I appreciate your opinion!
